8TH GRADE TASKS

  • Take simple interest or personality assessments to identify strengths and emerging career interests.

  • Reflect on what subjects you enjoy and why as this sets the foundation for pathway choices.​

  • ​Get involved in activities that support future goals.  Focus on reading, writing and math skills.

9TH GRADE TASKS

  • Build a strong academic foundation and study routine--GPA starts now and will follow you!

  • ​Practice consistent study routines, organization and time management skills.

  • ​Explore career pathways, potential majors and graduation requirements with school counselor.

  • ​Get involved in clubs, sports, arts, and volunteer opportunities to discover passions.

10TH GRADE TASKS

  • Maintain strong grades--sophomore year performance determines access to AP, honors, and dual credit courses in the 11th grade.

  • Research colleges, majors, and training programs to understand admissions expectations.​

  • Begin building a resume with continued participation in clubs, sports, arts or community service--depth matters.

11TH GRADE TASKS

  • Take challenging courses, such as Honors, AP, Dual-Credit, Career Technical Education (CTE) courses.

  • Prepare for college admissions tests and timelines and take the PSAT, ACT and SAT exams.

  • Start college research, attend college campus visits and virtual tours to understand your reach, target and safe schools.
    Get involved in an "Internship" to explore a career and strengthen employability skills.

  • Draft essays, personal statements and gather recommendation sources.  Apply for scholarships.

12th GRADE TASKS

  • Complete all college, community college, or trade school applications and finalize your essays.
  • Submit letters of recommendation, transcripts, the FAFSA, and scholarship applications. ​
  • ​Stay on top of Early Action, Early Decision, Regular Decision, and financial aid deadlines.
  • ​Keep grades strong and continue taking rigorous courses.
  • Prepare for college by attending orientation, placement testing, and advising sessions, while building key life skills like budgeting, time management, and communication.​
  • ​Stay organized, track graduation requirements and documents, and celebrate your senior‑year milestones.

The 4 Major Steps of the College Admissions Process

Submit Applications & Required Documents:  Upload essays, transcripts, and recommendations.  Pay application fees or request fee waivers.

Research & Prepare:  Explore colleges, majors, deadlines, and requirements.  Gather required documents.  Create an organized system to track deadlines and materials.

Complete the Application Components:  Fill out the application.  Write personal statements and/or essays.  Request letter of recommendation. Polish resume. Take SAT/ACT or required entrance exam.

Follow Up, Respond, &            Make Your Decision: Track application portals.  Apply for Financial Aid (FAFSA,   scholarships, grants).  Review admissions decisions (Dec - April for most schools).   Submit your enrollment deposit.
